Jacob Cotton was raised in Walker, Louisiana and attended Louisiana Tech University where he graduated with degrees in both studio art and communication design.

Cotton has over 14 years of teaching experience having taught in Oklahoma, South Carolina and now Mississippi where he currently teaches and served as Associate Director in the School of Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Southern Mississippi. Cotton’s research in pedagogy has been presented at national conferences and his creative research has been exhibited in galleries across the nation and in Europe. His success however is best illustrated in his student outcomes through their employment at design agencies or through their countless awards each year.

Cotton is an avid hiker and has logged hundreds of miles in the Great Smoky Mountains, the Ozarks and more. When not in the classroom he prefers to be on an adventure whether hiking a new trail or rafting down a river. When not creating for work, he spends much of his time expanding his creative skillset cooking, crocheting, making cheeses, and exploring ceramics.
