Emotional expression can be at times difficult to express verbally and at times even more so visually. Most of my work encompasses highly charged emotions as its subject matter but in the past I’ve attempted to use landscapes and scenes to work as metaphors for felt emotions. During COVID I like many others have begun to notice the importance of the human face in emotional expression. Not to say this was something I was unaware of before COVID, but rather the absence of it due to masks has caused me to find more appreciation for it.
This new series continues in much of the way of my other series, but rather than using landscapes or scenes this uses the human face to be the subject of expression. At the moment I am restricting this series to a single model, but I am exploring the possibility of multiple models. Let me be the first to point out that this is not an original concept, but given my preferred medium and artistic style I hope to produce a series of work that communicates this concept differently.
Below is the first of the series titled Strength through Obstinance is 7×7 inches and graphite on paper.
As I begin to reprioritize my time I hope to get back to producing work for this series and the other series that I are currently active.
