UNCONVENTIONAL ILLUSTRATION
Illustration can be more than drawing, watercolor, and precisely placed anchor points or pixels. This course and projects explores the expressive value of objects and materials while introducing alternative methods.
Project I: Hands-off Poster
As the first project in illustration this project explains the emotional and expressive power found in objects while also encouraging students to use that power as their voice. This project requires students to create a poster for an agenda of their choosing without using traditional mark making methods. Several exercises including explorations with found objects and research journals are integrated into this project.

Project II: Photo Manipulation
The second project in the illustration course introduces the idea of physical manipulation to pre-produced graphic and photographic items and the expressive and communication value that can come from that manipulation. Students were required to explore methods such a surface effects, mark making, collage, and photographic transfer techniques.
