SPVA Design & Marketing
An inhouse design agency with the sole purpose of creating and promoting a better education.
This team of students was started in its current structure in 2018 as a way to produce graphic materials for the promotion of the new School of Performing and Visual Arts at Southern Miss which was created as a result of a university wide reorganization. The School of Performing and Visual Arts, or SPVA, consists of the Art + Design, Dance, and Theatre programs. Originally the SPVA Design and Marketing Team consisted of 4 students following the classic Art Director, Senior Designer, Junior Designer structure today that number has grown to 7 and now includes 2 teams and an Associate Creative Director.
The projects that this team handles can vary depending on the type of event but usually consist of Branding, Advertising, and Social Media content development for events such as dance and theatre performances, art exhibitions, guest lectures, and recruitment initiatives. Below are some of the projects this team has handled.
Event Branding
Unlike the classroom where students have a certain level of freedom with their concepts these projects are client driven. This gives students the experience of working within the client’s limitations and expectations in a real world environment.
Recruitment
At any major university recruitment is constantly evolving effort and concern. The SPVA has several major avenues for recruitment from major events and promotional outreach through social media and mail-outs.
Advertising
Due to shrinking budgets and a greater digital presence most of the advertising that takes place for the SPVA happens on social media. It is important to note that this is just a minute sampling, the team maintains a daily presence on social media equating to 1000’s of posts between the 8 different SPVA accounts.
